We Support

Animal Haven, animalhavenshelter.org - Animal Haven is a no-kill animal shelter adoption center and animal sanctuary. Our mission is to place cats and dogs in loving homes, as well as give lifetime care for those who cannot be placed. We fulfill our no-kill mission through adoption programs at our shelter in Queens, our Mobile Adoption Program, and our upcoming Adoption Center and Boutique in SoHo. Animal Haven Acres Sanctuary and Rehabilitation Center, located in Delaware County, NY, is where hard to place dogs and cats can live out their lives in a homelike setting.

West Milford Animal Shelter, westmilfordanimalshelter.org - The West Milford Animal Shelter is the only animal shelter in NJ that is operated completely by volunteers. All volunteers are members of the West Milford Animal Shelter Society (WMASS). WMASS volunteers donate over 1,200 hours per month at the facility and have established a trusting and caring environment for between the 600-1,000 animals that arrive at our shelter each year. Our annual adoption rate is 80% (the national average rate is roughly 40% or less). We provide educational programs for community service groups, schools and clubs.

NERR, rottrescue.org - North East Rottweiler Rescue and Referral Inc. extends its services to animal shelters, veterinary hospitals and the general public in an effort to raise public awareness of responsible Rottweiler ownership. NERR&R rescues unwanted and abandoned Rottweiler dogs and places them into appropriate, permanent homes. NERR&R promotes responsible ownership by providing free educational services. These services include pre-purchase counseling, behavior consultations and evaluations, as well as breeder, trainer and insurance referrals.

St. Huberts, sthuberts.org - Founded in 1939 by Geraldine R. Dodge, St. Hubert's is a nonprofit animal welfare organization dedicated to alleviating the suffering and neglect of companion animals and providing services that support the human-animal bond. Our innovative programs for animals and people serve as models for other organizations across the country, while our award-winning shelters provide safe refuge and compassionate care for thousands of lost, abandoned, abused and unwanted dogs and cats every year.

North Shore Animal League, NSALAmerica.org - North Shore Animal League America is the largest no-kill animal shelter dedicated to saving animals lives - not just in the New York, New Jersey and Connecticut areas—but around the world. While the League’s main adoption facility is located on Port Washington, New York, our mobile units allow us to travel the country rescuing animals from various different situations. North Shore Animal League America is also expanding programs worldwide. Read more information on our emergency rescue efforts, out of state rescue, breed specific rescues, and our international work.

In 1995, Pet Adoptathon began simply as a North Shore Animal League America adoption weekend, with the goal of finding homes for each dog and cat in the shelter. It became apparent that the overwhelming success had to be shared. Soon the League extended invitations to shelters everywhere to participate in Pet Adoptathon '96. That year, over 700 animal organizations joined together; the result was thousands more loving adoptions. And every year since, Pet Adoptathon has continued to grow. Last year, over 1,500 organizations participated all across the United States and around the globe. Twelve years later, Pet Adoptathon has fostered over 229,000 loving adoptions worldwide.

Best Friends, bestfriends.org - The sanctuary at the heart of Southern Utah’s Golden circle of national parks is home, on any given day, to about 1,500 dogs, cats, horses, rabbits and other animals. The mission of Best Friends is driven by the simple philosophy that kindness to all animals helps build a better world for us all. All of the work done by this organization is made possible by donations from members and supporters.

Save Our Strays, saveourstrays.org – Save Our Strays is a nonprofit, no-kill animal organization [founded in] 1999 (although work began much earlier). Funding is obtained primarily from personal donations, a part-time SOS thrift store, yearly silent auctions and seasonal garage sales. SOS receives over 100 calls every week from people seeking assistance for distressed animals; Over 850 animals have found either permanent or foster homes; Over 750 animals have received medical attention; Over 350 animals are fed and cared for every day. This attention requires an enormous amount of support in addition to personal time. Thousands of dollars are spent each month on food, medicine, cages, traps, rent, and veterinary bills...and still more animals [in need of assistance] are being identified each day.

The ASPCA, www.ASPCA.org - The ASPCA was founded in 1866 as the first humane organization in the western hemisphere. It is guided today by the same belief upon which it was founded, that animals are entitled to kind and respectful treatment at the hands of humans, and that this is not to be left to the compassionate impulses of humans but is entitlement that must be protected under the law.  The ASPCA has been and continues to be wholly committed to effecting change through non violent approaches, as it does not believe that violent actions are an appropriate expression for a movement that endorses kindness and respect.

Althought the mission of the ASPCA has always included all animals of the United states, due to the fact that many additional humane orgainzations have been founded to protect specific kinds of animals, such as farm animals, marine animals and wildlife, in 2001 the ASPCA has chosen to focus on companion animals.  THe policies of the ASPCA are based on empirical evidence and are supported by scientific research that establishes animals' capacity to feel pain and suffer.

in addition to broad policies regarding the humane treatment of animals ( expample: all companion animals should receive appropriate veterinary care) the ASPCA develops positions in response to specific situation as they arise (expample: all dogs should be vaccinated against rabies, but because some cats experience serious side effects to the rabies vaccine, the decision to vaccinate a cat against rabies is best left to the veterinarian and the cat guardian.)

The ASPCA believes that whether or not to consume animals, and animal products such as milk and eggs, is a personal and private determination that must be left to each individual. However, the ASPCA firmly believes that animals who are bred, raised and killed or harvested for human consumption, like all animals, are entitled to protection from distress and suffering during their lives and at the time of their deaths.

In gauging whether the treatment of animals in specific situations is humane, the ASPCA considers whether or not the animlas physiological, behavioral, social and emotional needs can be fully met.  The ASPCA is always concerned with the welfare of individual animals as with the preservation of population and species.

The US Humane Society, HSUS.org - The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) has worked since 1954 to promote the protection of all animals. With nearly ten million members and constituents, The HSUS is the nation’s largest and most powerful animal protection organization working in the United States and abroad to defend the interests of animals. We celebrate the human-animal bond, and we fight animal cruelty and abuse in all of its forms.

We work to reduce suffering and to create meaningful social change for animals by advocating for public policies to protect animals, investigating cruelty and working to enforce existing laws, educating the public about the issues, and conducting hands-on programs, such as assisting animals when disasters strike. Our major campaigns target four primary issues: 1) factory farming; 2) animal fighting and other forms of animal cruelty; 3) the fur trade; and 4) inhumane sport hunting practices.

Our other campaigns take on puppy mills, the private ownership of exotic animals as pets, greyhound racing, and particularly unacceptable animal research and testing practices, such as the use of great apes in research. Our two signature programs— Pets for Life and Wild Neighbors—celebrate the benefits of the bond between people and animals who live with us or in our communities, and teach people how to solve human/animal conflicts humanely. And we provide direct care for thousands of animals at our sanctuaries, wildlife rehabilitation centers, and mobile veterinary clinics.

Farm Sanctuary, farmsanctuary.com - Over the years, we have rescued thousands of animals and educated millions of people about their plight. People are shocked to learn about the intolerable conditions that are commonplace on today's industrialized farms.

Our rescue and education work continues as we advocate for laws and policies to prevent suffering and promote compassion. We are reaching out to legislators and businesses and working to bring about institutional reforms.

When Farm Sanctuary started in 1986, it was a fledgling, all-volunteer organization that was funded by sales of veggie hot dogs from a VW van. Today, Farm Sanctuary has grown to become the nation's leading farm animal protection organization, with hundreds of thousands of supporters.
